BroMenn Bestows Annual Spiritual Care Award
The BroMenn Healthcare System recently presented its annual Chaplain Don Nester Spiritual Care Award to Bob Hopkins of Bloomington. Hopkins retired earlier this spring after serving the clients of BroMenn's Adult Day Services for twenty years as a bus driver.
Hopkins was selected by a committee of BroMenn employees from a field of nominees. He was cited for exemplifying BroMenn's values, including a strong faith in God. His nomination stated that "He does not see the differences in people but instead sees similarities and shared needs. I have witnessed him praying with clients and fellow employees… consistently praying for people throughout this community."
BroMenn Spiritual Care Services created the Don Nester Spiritual Care Award in 2002 as a tribute to the memory of Nester, a longtime BroMenn chaplain. The award is intended to recognize an employee of the BroMenn Healthcare System who best exemplifies the legacy of spiritual care that Chaplain Nester embraced.
To qualify for the award, nominees must: demonstrate support for the values for the BroMenn organization; demonstrate their faith through actions as well as words; respond to the spirituality of all persons including patients, family staff, physicians, and volunteers; and demonstrate sensitivity to the variety of spiritual beliefs found at BroMenn Healthcare.
Hopkins' name has been engraved on a special trophy that is displayed on the second floor of BroMenn Regional Medical Center's Atrium.
