Street Closure to Affect BroMenn Emergency Dept. Access

A portion of Franklin Avenue in Normal that runs along BroMenn Regional Medical Center's west side will close permanently to traffic on Monday, September 28, 2009.

The closure is necessary for the completion of the newly-expanded Apple Street, which when completed in October will connect Main and Center streets with Franklin. The section of Franklin will remain closed in preparation for the start of construction work that will add a new patient tower to BroMenn Regional Medical Center. The new tower will cross the closed section of Franklin Avenue.

Because of the street closure, BroMenn Emergency Department public access will only be available from the south, by accessing the southern portion of Franklin Avenue via Emerson Street. When Apple Street is completed, Emergency Department access will also be available from the west.

Public access to the main hospital entrance can only come from the north, off Virginia Avenue. Ample signage will be posted all around the vicinity of the hospital to communicate the access restrictions and detours.
